Litter pickers help Beach Buddies continue mission

by isleofman.com 18th February 2019

A new batch of litter pickers has been donated to Beach Buddies by Manx Utilities in support of the charity’s work around the Island.

It’s the second time that Manx Utilities has donated a quantity of brand new litter pickers which cleans rubbish from beaches, footpaths, parks, glens and plantations.

The charity has attracted more than 11,000 different volunteers since 2013.

Founder Bill Dale says: "This is very much appreciated.

"Manx Utilities approached us and asked if they could offer their support and litter pickers were top of the list.

"We need to replace litter pickers on a regular basis so this offer from Manx Utilities is perfect timing.

"They will be put to very good use during the next 12 months, especially by the thousands of school children who join us every year.

"The children just love using the litter pickers.”

Chairman of Manx Utilities Alex Allinson says: "Manx Utilities is pleased to be able support Beach Buddies with a supply of litter pickers while we complete the Island’s Regional Sewage Treatment Strategy.

"Bill and the Beach Buddies volunteers have been incredibly helpful in supporting our goal to bring rubbish-free beaches to our Island and this contribution is a small way to both support and say thank you for all they have done.

"We very much hope the litter pickers will come to good use."
