The true magic of Christmas will be brought to life for some very special children in the Island this festive period.

The Manx Lottery Trust has awarded a grant of ?2,500 to a local charity which has organised three Christmas parties for ‘superhero’ children.

A Little Piece of Hope has arranged the events where children who have an illness or are experiencing a difficult time will receive a special gift.

Helen Sheppard from the charity explains: “A number of local children have had a tough year through sickness or hardship.

“They could have a long or short-term illness, may have suffered a bereavement, be looking after a parent or have a sick sibling, they may be being bullied. There can be many factors.

“This is our way of recognising what they go through or have had to overcome and ensure they receive a Christmas treat.

“To meet Father Christmas is a dream come true for so many of them and to come along to a party and see the look on their faces melts you every time. We are so appreciative of the Manx Lottery Trust, TM Vinyl and the kindness of the public for helping make this happen.”

A Little Piece of Hope has given gifts to more than 120 young people this Christmas thanks to donations from members of the public in a Secret Santa initiative.

The Manx Lottery Trust has funded the parties for children aged under 11, over 11 and those with a disability. 

Chairman Sarah Kelly says: “This is a great community project and one we are very pleased to support.

“The charity is expecting around 160 children will be attending the parties and to bring some joy and happiness to such inspirational young people is extremely worthwhile.

“We wish them all a very happy Christmas.”
