Children's charter to help vulnerable

by isleofman.com 6th March 2015

Giving children the best possible opportunities in life is the aim of a strategy Tynwald will be asked to approve this month.

A five-year plan addresses the key actions called for in a review of children's services that was carried out by the Scottish Care Inspectorate in 2013.

It identified a need to improve early identification and intervention, to improve support for children with complex needs and to develop creativity and innovation through collaborative leadership.

Education Minister Tim Crookall said the strategy would cover young people from birth to 18, adding: 'The majority of our 17,000-plus children and young people do well in life but, for some, the challenges they face – whether brought about by social or economic
issues or disability or illness – can hamper their progress.

'Through this strategy, we are committed to working together to ensure every child has the best possible opportunities in life.'
