Committee quizzes minister on government savings

The Cabinet Office team charged with reducing the cost of running government has notched-up savings of ?15 million so far.
The figure was revealed to the Public Accounts Committee, reviewing the progress of the Transforming Government programme.
Yesterday the scrutiny body heard from Policy and Reform minister John Shimmin and Director of Change and Reform Dan Davies.
They said cash savings to date had largely been achieved through sharing services across departments and reducing staff costs.
Total savings of public money are projected to rise to ?21 million by 2017-2018.
