Join in the fun at festival of food, music and dance

by isleofman.com 14th August 2014

A magnificent evening of Manx music, dance and food is being lined up at the Community Farm next month. Organisers of the Harvest Moon Festival on September 27th want to hear from local food producers, musicians and dance groups that want to take part.

Chrissy Cannell, Community Farm Team Leader, said:

“The Harvest Moon Festival will feature a good old-fashioned ceilidh featuring Manx artists, a mhelliah auction of local produce, and a hog roast which are all included in the ?20 ticket price. We would love to hear from any local producers who want to show their produce, or to donate food to be auctioned. We’re aiming to have a range of local produce for sale so we can provide a feast of Manx flavours for visitors. The traditional ceilidh will also be a great opportunity to showcase the talents of Manx bands and dance groups, so we would also like to hear from anyone who wants to take part in what will be a great evening of entertainment.”

Compere for the night will be Dot Tilbury MBE and the festival will take place in a marquee at the Community Farm, which is on the Wallberry Farm on the Carnane Estate off the Old Castletown Road in Douglas. It runs from 7.30pm until late in the evening. No parking is available at the farm for the event, but transport will be provided from and to the Sea Terminal. No alcoholic drinks will be on sale on the evening, but visitors can bring their own favourite tipple with them.

All of the funds raised will go to towards projects run at the Community Farm, which is a charitable project of The Children’s Centre. Unique in the Isle of Man, the farm works with schools and groups across the Island providing a nurturing and educational environment, and helping people grow whilst reconnecting with the countryside.
