What turned out to be the last fine day of Ramsey Golf Week saw the Chrystals Auctions 4BBB Stableford take place kindly sponsored by Murray Keefe.

Nothing less than 40+ points was going to feature on a 3 quarter handicap basis. A tough format but in-form mid handicap players were always going to be worth a bet. Seymour Corkill teamed up with Ian Liddle and reached the turn with a run of the mill 18 points and certainly upped their gear on the way in with a birdie 3, courtesy of Seymour, on the 10th. Picking up on shot holes gave them 22 on the back 9 and 40 overall. David Kinrade and Frank Feeney started well and a 2 on the 9th from Frank gave them 22 points but they ran out of steam with 41 points. Simon Callow and John Quayle also posted 41 and a 4 on the last was a disappointment. Ray McElhinney and Dave Boswell came in with another 41 after a 22 point inward half including a fine birdie from Dave on the 15th. Dropping shots on the 5th and 6th together with failing to score on the 7th probably ruined their day. Golf week would not be right if a visitor from the South did not make an impact and Lawrence Skelly teamed up with IOM Golf Tours’ Ged Power to have a go at Ramsey. Again, a solid start followed by an excellent back 9 and a birdie on the 18th from Lawrence saw another 41 on the leader board. The top prizes were fought out by 5 teams. Just losing out and in 5th place was Kevin Berry and Bob Griffiths on 42 points. Just like others, a good start followed by pressing the accelerator on the back 9 with as run of solid point scoring par’s from both players; the bogey blip on the 17th proving costly. Phil Hassall and Dave Littler played a balanced game of 43 points but the closing holes are the tricky ones at Ramsey and two bogeys on the last two after an excellent birdie 3 on the 13th from Phil was just not enough to give them a back 9 advantage. Connal Hughes and Paul Allinson nudged ahead of them with a better home lap after an excellent birdie from Paul on the 15th.  A par-in last three holes and 43 points got them 3rd place. Graham Garrett and Garry Sherry had a one shot advantage and took 2nd place. A birdie on the 13th and 17th from Graham in a steady round was impressive. T

he Wednesday Crew represented by Ray Rowley and Mac McDonald won the day on 46 points with a birdie from Mac on the 5th in an otherwise flawless round with only one dropped shot on the 16th. Excellent steady golf and top prize to quench their thirst and a big cheers to Murray. Next weekend is the Mann link Travel AM AM open competition re-scheduled after last week’s downpour.
