Manx consumers urged to think about food purchases

by isleofman.com 13th August 2014
Manx consumers are being urged to think carefully about the decisions they make over food purchases in the next few weeks.

It comes as concern grows in the UK that producers going to be affected by a Russian ban on food imports.

The country is not allowing food in from any places which have imposed sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.

Although it's a comparatively small market it could still have an impact on profits for certain UK businesses.

There's also the potential that the price of some food products could fall, as there is a great deal of supply.

Secretary of the Manx National Farmers Union Belinda Leach says they are not aware of anyone from the Island who exports directly to Russia.

But she believes we could still be affected, and hopes the loyalty of the Manx people will stand firm.
