Description

The library was founded on November 29 1886 when it was situated next to the Town Hall in Ridgeway Street. In 2003 it was relocated to Victoria Street and in 2016 to Duke Street. It is named in recognition of the late Henry Bloom Noble (1816-1903), one of the island’s most generous benefactors, who came to the Isle of Man from Cumberland and through his entrepreneurial skills was reputed to be the richest man in Douglas by his early forties.

The library is free to join for all Isle of Man residents and offers a wide range of services to meet the needs of the community including, over 30,000 physical items made up of books for all ages in normal and large print and audiobooks on CD and PlayAway.

The library’s IT suite offers access to PCs and free wifi along with charging points, printing facilities and a photocopier. For family history researchers, Ancestry is available via the library PCs. The library also hosts a range of activities such as readers groups for adults and children, weekly preschool story times, craft activities and guest speakers on an array of topics.

The library has a 24/7 online service which is made up of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers and online reference resources including Encyclopaedia Britannica and Oxford Online.
